News - (scroll down for old news)
24/6/10 - We are delighted to announce that we will be playing the fantastic Canberra club during September or October. This is a fundraising gig in aid of the soldiers trust and all monies raised on the night will be matched by BAE!!!. The Canberra club is situated within the grounds of BAE Systems on the A59 Samlesbury, Lancs. Watch this space for confirmation of the date and ticket availability - your support will be much appreciated and all profits will be donated to the above charity. Again we will be playing our new Pink Floyd set so this is a no brainer for Floyd fans!
3/6/10 - As mentioned in a previous news update we will indeed be playing a gig at the Stanley on Stanley Street in Accrington on 4th September. As with our gig at the Punchbowl in Earby on 28th August we will be previewing our new Pink Floyd-a-thon set and will hopefully have a few surprises too. We are keen to stress that we are NOT a Pink Floyd tribute band, we have no intentions of slavishly copying every nuance of what they did - more we love Pink Floyd and intend to play their stuff, and all the other classic rock stuff we do, the Cooler Kings way. Thanx to everyone who claps n cheers for your continued support.
28/5/10 - We are proud to announce that we will now be performing over an hour of Pink Floyd music in our shows. We are doing a small number of gigs at the moment as 'testers' to 'bed the new tracks in'. This is still very much a work in progress but we're getting there and are hoping to pencil in a few more gigs in the not too distant future. We're really looking forward to our gig at the Stanley club and intend to do most of our new stuff there - it'd be nice to have a good crowd so if you can....
28/4/10 - Big fat thanx to Phil and the staff at the Stanley for a totally brilliant jam night on monday, we had a really, really good night. The audience were fab and local music fan and blog meister Greig Adamson was there to witness the whole thing and committ his reviews to the jam night blog (click here to read), the boys in the band are all blushing with modesty as I write. Thanx to all the other musicians who took part, all of whome are credited in the jam blog, a special thanx to Rob Brown who, like the Cooler Kings, practically played a gigs worth he was up and at it for soooo long!!! I think I'm right in saying that the Stanley are keen to get the band to play a gig there fairly soon - watch this space!
2/4/10- We're hosting jam night at the mighty Stanley club again on 26th April - be there or be, er, somewhere else...:o)
18/2/10 - All quiet on the western front... As is pretty obvious we don't have many gigs this year up to now. This is deliberate, we are starting a couple of months fairly intensive rehearsals in order to kick the backside out of out set and introduce more of the stuff people are asking for (such as Pink Floyd, Pink Floyd and more Pink Floyd!!!) - so, please be patient, hopefully in the not too distant future we will be adding more and more gigs to the gigs page. In the mean time on March15th we are hosting jam night at the Stanley in Accrington for the first time in yonks and we have a gig at the Punch Bowl in Earby booked in August. Thankyou for your continued support! :0)
5/12/09 - Really, really sorry if you made the effort to come to the Bay Horse in Horwich to see us tonight, the place has been taken over and typically, our booking didn't count for fuck all!!! We got there to find another band unloading their gear and frankly had no choice but to go home.... :(
Our last gig of 2009 is next week at the George in Darwen (we hope! - unless it's been taken over AGAIN and that booking doesn't count either!!), so see you there! There will be gig dates for next year coming soon. We're trying our best to avoid the 'dying on it's arse' pub scene and will concentrate more on booking better, more reliable venues for the future. Please keep checking back for gig date updates, we've worked hard over the last three years to build and improve our set list and as a result we've grown in popularitry with the punters and we DON'T want to waste it. If we don't see you lot before Christmas have a splendid Noel and a happy peaceful new year. Thankyou, thankyou, thankyou for your continued support and all the nice feedback we get at gigs - all being well we'll have lots of gig dates for 2010 soon, see you all next year!!!
P.S. get your arses down to the George in Darwen next saturday!!!
29/11/09 - Fantastic gig at the Wishing Well last night, thankyou!!!
30/8/09 - Had a lovely time at The Myrescough charity gig today. We were helping to raise money for St. Catherines Hospice and the North West Air Ambulance. A very big thankyou to everyone who helped to pull this event together and of course to all the wonderful people who braved the intermittent showers and drizzle to make the day a success! Piccies from this event have been added to the gallery so go n 'ave a butchers!
5/6/09 - Piccies from the Dunsop Bridge fundraiser have been added to the gallery - a hearty thankyou to everyone who supported the event and helped us to raise a good dollop of dosh for a worthy local cause, we had a lovely time, the BBQ was wonderful and the weather couldn't have been better. Thanx to Phill and Janette and Simons wife Debbie for organising the whole thing and making it happen.
14/4/09 - New piccies from the Wishing Well gig just added to the gallery, thanx to everyone for clapping. Next stop is the Bay Horse in Horwich on 25th April - see you there!!!
22/2/09 - Last nights gig at The Punch Bowl in Earby was really nice, a great venue with great people! A very, very special thankyou goes to Lucy who got the band to do an off the cuff rendition of Pink Floyds "Shine On You Crazy Diamond" to finish the night off. And thankyou to all the people who said such lovely things about the band - it's appreciated and we'll look forward to seeing you all on 18th July when hopefully Lucy and her family will be there again and we'll be able to get the Floyd thing right for her! :)
11/2/09 - Lots more gigs on the gigs page, the band is trying to rehearse enough to introduce more new stuff to the set list, lots of lovely compliments at the gigs we've done so far ths year, lining up to do some "live" studio recordings to update this bloody website and on top of all that Browny couldn't get his gear in his car coz the boot door had frozen solid in Darwen on saturday @ 1:00am in the morning...the rest of the band could get our gear in our cars so we didn't give a shit and went home - rock n roll eh. Joking aside, we are already introducing new stuff to the set and plan to stuff more new songs in over the next few weeks. Those of you who keep asking for more Pink Floyd songs...calm down it's coming. Anyway we ramble, so to finish off, next stop the Punch Bowl in Earby on the 21st Feb - see you there.
5/1/09 - Happy New Year!!!
10/12/08 - Great time at The George in Darwen and a really nice way to end our 2008 gigs. 21/9/08 - Gallery updated with shots from the Hodder Valley show night party - all photos taken by my lovely wife Debbie.
21/9/08 - We don't generally use this news page as a vehicle for ranting but this is an exeption. Last nights gig has really pissed me off, I'm not going to name 'em, you can use a bit of common sense to find that out for yourself. The night was initially marred by constant whinging from the landladies about volume, the band were playing at a level which became detrimental to the sound and inhibiting to us as musicians. Members of the audience did their best to support us but were told to keep out of it. The night eventually turned out to be a good one because of the support of the punters who loved us inspite of the aggressive nature of some of the staff. This is the first gig we've done where we have no future bookings and don't bloody well want any. We are all aware of how difficult it is for pubs these days but landlords/landladies need to appreciate that if you book a blues/rock band....that's what you get! - so don't behave as if you were expecting an acoustic folk trio, and if the acoustics of your venue are not suited to live bands for God's sake stop blaming the bloody bands and book acts that are more appropriate to your venue. My final word - a BIG thankyou to all the people who said how good they thought the band were and look out for us playing other venues in the area. See you next week at the Stanley in Accrington, who, by the way are one of the many local venues who do their best to support live music in a proactive, realistic way and survive because of it.
14/9/08 - What a great night at Newton Village Hall, we all really enjoyed ourselves and raised £1300 for the local school - BIG thankyou to everyone who supported the concert and a special thankyou to www.inconcert.co.uk for supporting and sponsoring the event. We'll update the gallery with some piccies from the gig soon.
