Been messing with guitars since I was 5 or 6 years old but started really playing when I was about 9 or 10 (my first electric guitar was a red Futurama 2 duo that cost me £5!). Been in and out of bands since 1973 - these include: Skye from 1973 - 74, The Lewis Brothers Band from 1978 - 83, Oestra from 1984 - 85, No Sweat/Relative Strangers - 1987, The Lost Boys from 1992 - 94, Snowblind from 1998 - 99 and now The Cooler Kings. I have also been lucky enough to do session work for various local and not so local artists as both vocalist and guitar player.
I currently own a 1963 Fender Stratocaster, Gibson Les Paul Custom, 1959 Hofner Committee, 1957 Hofner Senator, assorted acoustic guitars, Peavey C4 Bass guitar, Yamaha DTXpress digital drum kit, Mandolin, Alto Sax, 2x Yamaha keyboards, various odds and sods of percussion and an old Roland Pro E synth. My amplifier is a 1972 Marshall 50 watt 1987d lead top which has been ever so slightly modified coz I kept blowing the bloody thing up! This goes into either a 1974 Marshall 4x12 (Celestion G12M's), or a Marshall 2x12 (Celestion G12H's) of the same vintage. I am currently using a Boss ME-50 multi FX processor for live work. No matter what guitar I'm playing I always use Jim Dunlop Nylon USA 0.88mm guitar picks and have done for nearly 30 years.
I have been writing and recording my own music for a thousand years or more and have written in many different styles from jazz/funk to soul, and from r&b to hard rock but I seem to be at my happiest playing rock/blues based stuff. My current recording set up includes a Roland VS-1880 18 track digital work station and a lovely old Tascam Porta One 4 track mini studio, I use both AKG and Shure microphones.
